Introduction
The Plastic Soup Foundation (hereafter PSF) offers several services. For the proper functioning of these services it may be necessary to collect personal data or information and store it temporarily. Any personal data is collected, used and deleted with the greatest of care and in line with the law and regulations. The protection of personal data is essential to PSF. PSF is legally responsible for the processing of all personal data obtained through PSF websites, apps, PSF Webshop and other PSF services.
We are committed to ensuring that our services are transparent, personal and reliable. In that context, it is important that you know exactly what personal information PSF collects, how we use it and how you can exercise your privacy rights. What personal data does PSF collect?
Depending on the type of service that you use or purchase, PSF may ask for the following personal data.
Orders on PSF Webshop, donors:
- Contact and payment information (name, address, place of residence, date of birth, telephone number, email address, bank account number, customer/donor number where relevant).
Use of websites, apps and general online services:
- Personal data (name, gender, home address, email address, telephone number and date of birth);
- Interaction data (IP address, surfing behaviour on websites and apps, click behaviour, location data, cookie ID);
- Information on taking part in regular promotions. These are data on taking part in contests, donations, auction and so on and information on birthdays or the birthday of someone else.
Subscribing to the PSF newsletter:
- personal data (name, gender, home address, email address, telephone number).
For which purposes does PSF process personal data?

How long does PSF keep personal data?
PSF does not retain personal data for longer than necessary for the above-mentioned purposes. The retention period for personal data depends on the purposes for which they are collected. Certain personal data that are required for fiscal purposes must be retained for seven years. Once your personal data are no longer needed, they will be anonymised or deleted.
For example, PSF will delete or anonymise your personal data within a reasonable period after receipt of a request to unsubscribe from the newsletter or to stop donations. This is subject to legal requirements and related retention periods.
Cookies
Apart from the data that you provide PSF, data is also gathered through PSF websites and apps. The data is used for anonymous, statistical research as well as to align the websites to the preferences of our visitors. The latter is done partly through the use of cookies. Cookies are small, simple text files that your computer or mobile device saves when you visit our online services.
Insofar as PSF uses cookies to collect personal data, these are processed in accordance with the provisions in this privacy statement. You can set your preferences yourself when you use our websites and apps.
How does PSF protect personal data?
Personal data is only collected and used if this is legally permitted and the data is secured appropriately technically and organisationally against loss or any form of unlawful processing. To this end, PSF always uses a secured SSL connection during processes involving ordering or subscribing and the mailing of contact forms. PSF employees only have access to your personal data if this is necessary.
We make agreements on the security of your personal data with external third parties who process that data. If we use third parties to process personal data for us, we ensure that they also meet our security requirements. We do this, for example, through signing data processing agreements in which we specify the security measures to be taken and the use of the personal data.
How can you exercise your privacy rights?
The right to greater access to and correction or removal of personal data: The law applies different rights to persons whose personal data is processed and offers more means to check and control the processing of these personal data. You can request PSF at any time to inspect your data, change them or remove them permanently. To do so, contact us on gdpr@plasticsoupfoundation.org. State in the subject line that it is about privacy, and specifically a request for inspection, correction or removal. Please be aware that in some cases, PSF may ask for additional information, for example to confirm your identity.
The right to object: You have the right to object to the use of your personal data. If you inform us, through a certain media channel, that you do not wish to be contacted anymore, PSF will include you in a relevant file and your personal data will no longer be used for these purposes. Inform us accordingly on gdpr@plasticsoupfoundation.org. State clearly that the subject is privacy and specifically that you are using your right to object.
Changes to the privacy statement
PSF retains the right to change its privacy statement if there are good reasons for doing so. You are responsible for remaining up-to-date on the latest version of this privacy statement.
